In 1856, the then City of Brooklyn built a reservoir atop Mt. Prospect, soon to be supplemented by the larger Ridgewood Reservoir. In 1860, Mt. Prospect was to be included in the city's ambitious new Prospect Park, to be designed by Calvert Vaux and Frederick Law Olmsted, who were in the process of designing the more famous Central Park for New York City. The designers felt that the fact that Flatbush Avenue, the main roadway from Brooklyn to Flatbush, would cut through the park meant that the eastern portion of potential parkland including Mt. Prospect should not be included
Brooklyn City kept control of the land, which then passed to the City of Greater New York in 1898. The major portion of the land became Institute Park, a private park, which was developed into today's Brooklyn Botanic Garden, still a private institution. With the city's water supply shifted upstate, the reservoir and tower were demolished in 1940.
  • Matting & Framing Options

You can customize your print's presentation from a wide selection of frames and mats: modern or classic - all timeless. See the options here.

Our most popular style is Modern Black - Thin frame, coupled a White Mat with Black Core. The Modern White frames will match any style and are perfect for gifts. Looking for something with more bang? The gold and silver frames may be what you want. See examples here.

Mats are not offered with Gallery frames at the moment (but look great without them!).

  • Frame Sizes

All frames are custom cut and sized to match the dimensions of the image. Your final, framed print might not exactly match the dimensions listed in the Frame Size dropdown menu.

The maximum dimensions of each frame size are:

    • Keepsake: Up to 5" x 7"
    • Accent: Up to 9" x 12"
    • Spotlight: Up to 16" x 20"
    • Centerpiece: Up to 34" x 36"
    • Gallery: Up to 32" x 40"

Because of the original pixel size of the scans, not all prints are available in all sizes.

  • Shipping & Delivery

    Shipping is always free!

Prints will be scanned at the archives, and retouched by our artists to make them pixel-perfect. They will then be reprinted, trimmed, matted and framed to fit their custom sizes.

You should expect the final, framed print in 4-6 weeks. Because each print is custom researched, retouched, and framed, all sales are final.
